Thermal imaging technology has been around for a number of years now, used operationally in rescues primarily for the location of casualties disabled by toxic fumes and smoke resulting from fires. Based on heat source the imaging device can locate a casualty through thick smoke or fog enabling an otherwise prolonged blind search to come to a successful conclusion fairly rapidly.
